How to Protect Your Car at Valet Parking

Valet parking is convenient — until you get a damage claim with no proof the damage was not already there. These five steps protect your car every time you hand over the keys.

1. Scan your car before handing over the keys

A pre-handover scan is the single most effective protection against valet damage claims. CarShake takes 8-angle scans with timestamps and geotags in 30 seconds. If a valet claims the scratch was already there, you have timestamped proof of the car's condition at handover. Without a scan, the dispute is your word against theirs. 2. Enable valet mode if your car has it

Many modern cars have a valet mode that limits speed, locks the glovebox, and records driving data. Enable it before handing over the keys. It prevents joyriding and gives you a record of how the car was driven while in valet custody.

3. Remove valuables and document the interior

Take a quick photo of the interior — dashboard, seats, center console. Valet damage is not just exterior. Spilled drinks, scuffed leather, and broken knobs happen more often than you would think. A pre-handover interior photo covers this.

4. Choose valet stands with visible cameras

Parking facilities with visible security cameras have significantly lower damage claim rates. If you have a choice between two valet stands, pick the one with cameras. The deterrent effect is real — attendants drive more carefully when they know they are being recorded.

5. Inspect immediately upon return

Do not drive away and check later. Walk around the car before getting in. Check all four corners, both bumpers, and both side mirrors — these are the most common damage points. If you spot damage, follow the valet damage dispute process immediately.
