Methodology — In One Paragraph
The Valet Damage Index ranks 40 US cities by an estimated composite valet-related vehicle-damage incident rate (incidents per 1,000 valet visits). The estimate synthesizes publicly available signals: city parking-authority valet-permit density, state insurance-department claims filings, NHTSA parking-related incident statistics, valet-service density, and community-sourced driver reports. It is a directional ranking, not a direct measurement — actual rates vary by venue, time of day, vehicle type, and operator. Average claim values are estimated from insurance-industry data.
